The new class schedule goes into effect today. Youth classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will run from 5:30 pm to 6:45 pm. Little Mantis and Youth Kung Fu classes on Saturdays will meet from 10:00 am to 11:15 am. For students that are on the demo team, practice will be on Saturdays from 12:30 pm to 2 pm.

Demonstrations by members of the Wah Lum Kung Fu Atheletic Association in Chinatown and Wah Lum Kung Fu & Tai Chi Academy in Malden will be held on Friday, August 27 as part of Chinatown’s Films at the Gate event. Ever summer, the Asian Community Development Corporation turns an empty lot near Chinatown’s gate into a free, outdoor theater showcasing kung fu and Chinese-language films. The entire event runs from Thursday, August 26 through Saturday, August 28 at night.

Youth classes, including the Little Mantis class, will be rescheduled to new times starting September 1, 2010. Demo team practice will also be moved to a new time. All other classes, adult and Sunday’s youth class, will remain the same.

Chi-Sun Chan recently visited our school to do a photo assignment and has graciously shared his photos and allowed us to display some of them on our website. Chinatown Main Street is holding its August Moon Festival this Sunday, August 15 from 10 am to 5 pm. Come join the festivities, check out the vendor booths, and various performances throughout the day. Members from both the Malden and Boston Wah Lum schools will be there performing a demonstration of our style around 2:30 pm that day.

The Malden Kiwanis Club is hosting its third annual Family Fun Day benefiting Malden Kiwanis Children’s Charities this Saturday on August 14. The event takes place at Devir Park in Malden from 11 am to 4 pm. The rain date is on Sunday, August 15 at the same location. Tickets for the event are $5 per child and $1 per adult.
In addition to the many amusements and games, members of our school will be performing a demonstration of our kung fu style.

2010 marks the year of the 30th Wah Lum Kung Fu Tournament this fall in November. This tournament is open to all current Wah Lum students.
All guidelines and procedures are contained in both forms. For any questions, please contact Sifu Mai either in person at the school or the contact page.

Groupon, a deal-of-the-day website, is offering a 50% discount on the upcoming Boston Martial Arts Academy. If enough people sign up for the deal, the price of the workshop will be $99 instead of the $199. Ten people are needed to get the deal, and two are signed up so far.
The workshop will take place all day on August 28. Among the various instructors that will be there, Sifu Mai Du and Sifu Bob Rosen will be leading the tai chi and kung fu courses respectively.
